24hrs of Suffering

Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006

Canmore played host to the Canadian leg of the 24hrs of Adrenalin this weekend, a mountain bike event where solos or teams of riders systematically destroy themselves over the course of a whole day. I was down to shoot a story on Robin Borstmayer, eventual 3rd place solo finisher. Robin was good enough to let me tag along, and never once complained about a photographer following his every move for 24 hours. Look for those pictures soon!

Here’s some from the race itself:

TransRockies Opening Weekend

Monday, August 7th, 2006

I spent the long weekend shooting the opening of the TransRockies mountain bike race, starting in Fernie BC, with my good friend Chris Garrison who was wrenching for her ‘boss’, Keith Bontrager. The race looked brutal - “proper” mountain terrain coupled with high temperatures and a relentless schedule meant that a lot of racers were suffering right from the beginning - amateurs and professional riders alike.

Singletrack Magazine has published a selection of my images on their website, but here’s a couple extra:

Back from Crankworx

Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006

First year in Canada, first time at Crankworx - seems like it’s the place to be if you’re a professional mountain bike photographer. Or an amateur mountain bike photographer. Or anyone into mountain bikes in the whole of Western Canada. I was there for the final 4 days, and spending the whole time running around shooting everything from the Slopestyle, to Biker X, to Jump Jam, to DH, to just regular guys riding trails. It was my first trip to Whistler and I was blown away by the progressive features they’ve got there. Impressive stuff for sure.
