A new beginning
Tuesday, August 21st, 2007So, almost a month ago to this day my ‘big’ freeride bike was stolen from within a locked trailer, belonging to Trek bikes and parked in what I thought was the relative safety of the Whistler Bike Park. Turns out I couldn’t have been further from the truth; Whistler apparently has quite the problem with bike theft and the influx of visitors for the Crankworx week probably didn’t help either. Still, now I know, and won’t be leaving my gear lying around like I’ve carelessly been doing previously.
Anyhoo, earlier this week I picked up my replacement bike from my local shop, the fantastic Obsession: Bikes, who have been fixing up an ex-demo Trek Session 77, provided by the stupendously generous people at Trek Bikes. I say “ex-demo”, but in reality this bike was nowhere near the end of its tour of duty, so for Trek to hand it to me and say, “there you go, it’s yours” is awesome and very much appreciated (in related news, must sort out insurance ASAP).
I just got back from its maiden ‘Shore voyage, and am pleased to announce it’s exactly as much fun to ride as it looks. The small frame is nimble and easy to throw around, the running gear is top notch and the suspension makes it float like a dream - a shiny, gold dream.
Thanks to everyone involved in getting me back up and running: Chris, Krista and Dax at Trek Bikes, and all the guys at Obsession: Bikes. Without you all, I’d be crying myself to sleep right now.
