Competitioned out
Tuesday, August 26th, 2008So the last couple of weeks I’ve mainly been busy with two of the main competitions of the year (at least in the BC freeride / DH scene at least), Crankworx and the Bearclaw Invitational. You know what? Two weeks of competition is absolutely my limit; there’s only so much standing around on a hill / hiking down a course I can do before I start to go a little crazy and run screaming for the nearest bike-free destination. Not that I’m complaining about the work you understand, but it does make me appreciate actually riding my bike that much more. I’m spinning the positive here.
I’ve already written way, way too much about the whole “ordeal” in my daily reports for Bikemagic, so here’s a few of my second-favourite (very best ones to mags, natch) shots in lieu of any more lip-flapping.
- Beautiful golden dirt for the slalom course.
- Curtis Robinson is a World Champ in the making. There, I said it.
- I love shooting the Garbo DH because it's invariably wet, foggy, slimy and awesome.
- Long lens into the sun, it's becoming a favourite of mine.
- I saw Sim Mainey's recent shot from a slalom race and had to recreate it.
- Super dry and powdery for much of the time - tough on the gear and my hydration.
- Rented a Tilt-Shift for this...
- ...Manual focus was tough, but keeps you on your toes.
- Bearclaw at home. Literally.
